Anthony Liggins Biography
Anthony Liggins is a citizen and artist of the world. He may hang his hat
in the southern United
States, but his art is informed and
revealed by the images, colors and flavors of the wide world around him.
Warmed by old world beauty, inspired by the heartbeat and passion of Africa,
fascinated by the drama and culture of Asia and the fire and rhythm of
South America, Liggins is also deeply influenced by the modernism and
insanity of the 21st century. Sophisticated and primal, his work speaks
of emotions and landscapes wet with rain and desire.
Liggins’ art has evolved over the last few years from bright,
geometric images into vivid abstracts. His latest works feature canvases
drenched in the colors of sunsets and moonglows, emitting dream-like
images. His multi-layered painting techniques allow light to expose the
undertones in his work, producing the effect of optical illusions. Found
objects such as stones, metal and other talismans are incorporated in
some paintings, adding further dimension.
The more you look, the more there is to see. Liggins challenges the
viewer to experience his art…to drink in the colors and textures
