What is “Stain Glass Window?” “Why is Stain Glass Window?”
From the beginning, the series has been about the control of one group of people over another group. It deals with how institutions, governments, and churches have misled the people. Not just one people, but many people across color, socioeconomic, and religious lines. This is a problem around the world. People are suffering from persecution, racism, economic inequality, and mis-education. The fragmented pieces or perhaps fractured images, goes beyond simply the people, but the idea of controlling information.
I am researching the current pop art movement. Who and what are we talking about in 2011? Kanye West, Lady GaGa, Charlie Sheen, Civil unrest and the revolts around the world. Who and what are we not talking about in 2011? The slave trade, corporate corruption, the new face of America, the end of the middle class. Are we talking about Love, Family, Jesus the Christ? If so what are we saying these days? I want to explore these subjects and more.
The question for me then becomes, “How do I address current issues that will gets the audience attention and inspire some form of response as I combine stain glass and all of the historical imagery that comes with that form and modern pop art? I believe this combination would not be expected.
